The Meeting on Pesticide Registration Joint Review was convened in Jinan of Shandong Province during May 24-25, 2013. Participants to the Meeting included over 90 delegates from ICAs of Hebei, Shandong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and other 10 provinces, and representatives of MOA Department of Crop Production and Shandong Agricultural Department.
Deputy Director-General Ye Jiming of
ICAMA chaired the Meeting, and Director-General Sui Pengfei attended and addressed the meeting.
Sui spoke highly of the progress gained last year in the ministerial-provincial joint review of pesticide registration, and exchanged views with delegates on the significance, current situation, tasks and priorities of such pilot joint review.
He noted that the reform of registration review mechanism should be recognized and conducted from a science-based perspective.
The reform is not to deny previous achievements, but to meet the new requirements and global trends of pesticide management in new circumstances. Thanks to the expertise accumulated over dozens of years, we now have a solid foundation to push forward the reform process with confidence and determination.
"There is an urgent need to conduct reforms with appropriate entry points and systematic deployment." Sui said. "To this regard, we should lay out a general plan as the guideline and apply proper strategies and approaches in a step-by-step way, in order to make our work more intensified, efficient and acceptable with consideration of interests of all sides."
At the Meeting, the delegates discussed the practices, achievements as well as problems of the ministerial-provincial joint review of pesticide registration, outlined specific activities of next steps, and proposed better ways to improve the work in the future.
